Director of King's Man hopes to reboot one major mutant in X-Men

Matthew Vaughn would love to reboot one fan favorite character for the mutants' debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Matt Vaughn wants to direct another X-Men movie - but only if he can take on a new Logan.

During a press event attended by ComicBook.com and other outlets, Vaughn was asked which mutant he'd like to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unsurprisingly, he chose a character that he did not get a chance to explore in First Class.

Vaughn said there's only one character he didn't get to play with properly, but he'd have enjoyed playing it. "Hugh Jackman was great... I'd love to cast the young Wolverine in the reboot, I think he thought it would be fun," Vaughn said. Hugh Jackman nailed it, but I think Wolverine is the one character that I'm drawn to out of all of the X-Men. Yeah, Wolverine."

As for Wolverine, he has yet to be rebooted like many of the other mutants were for the new iteration of the team. And it's expected that all of the characters will be recast and reimagined when they finally arrive in the MCU. And if Vaughn had the chance to bring a new actor on board, he's already got a few names in mind.

"Well, he's older now, but I'd say Tom Hardy would have... been awesome," Vaughn said. "I think Taron [Egerton] would have been great." Aaron Taylor-Johnson could also have been great. Honestly, I would choose Aaron or Taron as my two first choices. I think they would do the job well."

Hardy might be too old to play a younger version of the character that could last for several films, as Vaughn points out. The Venom franchise seems to exist in the multiverse, so technically he plays a character in the MCU already. Also, Taylor-Johnson will portray Kraven the Hunter in Sony's upcoming film. And of course, he previously played Quicksilver. But Egerton seems like a good candidate given his age and acclaim.

Following the success of his Kick Ass film, Vaughn was chosen to direct First Class, a 2011 reboot which returned the X-Men franchise to the '60s with new actors. Since then, however, he's only directed Kingsman films, helming the two originals with Egerton and this year's prequel, The King's Man. Download
