Zendaya and Tom Holland talk about Spider-Man: No Way Home and their feelings toward it

"Throughout these films, Peter and May's relationship has played an extremely significant role in the heart and soul of the story."

Spider-Man: No Way Home presents one of Spider-Man's greatest challenges - saying goodbye to those he's kept near and dear to him.

Having learned that Spider-Man's real identity is known to the world, Peter asks Doctor Strange to cast a spell so everyone will forget he's Spider-Man, so his best friend, Ned, and his girlfriend, MJ, will be accepted to college. During the casting of the spell, Peter interrupts the spell and it goes horribly wrong. In the near future, villains from other Multiverses will enter, bringing with them a path of destruction that will push Peter to the limit.

In spite of all of this, Peter doesn't have to deal with it alone since he has his friends and Aunt, May Parker, by his side. Peter is reminded by those closest to him that “With great power comes great responsibility” whenever he feels defeated, and he can't simply continue with the task at hand.

As the story unfolds in the movie, Tom Holland remarks that it is in fact MJ who has a more positive outlook on things. As Zendaya points out, "Peter helps to melt MJ and break the shell that she's had to build in order to protect herself from the outside world.". There are not many people that she feels comfortable trusting and relying on, but Peter has become this person. He is important to her, and she does not want to lose him."

All the while, MJ stands by to "pick up the pieces and remind him who he is and what he cares about."

"She doesn't want to lose him, because he has really allowed her to become more and more herself, and more and more confident in her own skin, and loves her just the way she is. He begins to lose his positivity because he is going through so much. He takes on a more negative nihilistic outlook.

No matter how hard they try to stop it, they will ultimately lose each other no matter how hard they try. Knowing that the only way to stop the Multiverse from breaking is for everyone to have their minds wiped clean

The Spider-Man character requires Peter and MJ to say goodbye, even though Zendaya adds "they don't want to."

He must also say goodbye to May as well. May is injured in the crossfire after Green Goblin destroyed much of Happy Hogan's condo, and she succumbs to her wounds. The scene is heartbreaking, as it seems like May is doing well, but before she can leave, she collapses.

"The relationship between Peter and May has been integral to the story throughout these films," Holland explains. It seems as if this scene just happened out of the blue, no one expected it to happen. This is going to be a really, really hard movie for people to watch."

The actress continues, "She's a great role model. She raised a nice young man on her own. She doesn't get the credit she deserves."

Zendaya notes that Spider-Man typically has a male figure guiding him through life - among them Tony Stark and Quentin Beck previously - and says, "It's important to acknowledge May in the sense that everybody is like, 'Oh, he always has a mentor,' All these father figures. May has raised him. Shoutout to May!"

She's an incredible role model, shout out to May," Holland replies.

Even though the movie's events are difficult to swallow, Holland would not "change a single moment of it."

As she puts it, "I can honestly say that playing Spider-Man has changed my life." It's been amazing. The roller coaster ride has been absolutely amazing from the moment I stepped on to the moment we stepped off. Three generations of cinema are truly celebrated in this film. The experience of being the captain of the ship was awesome, and I was delighted to be at the helm. It's been a wonderful experience. Honestly, it's been the best thing to happen to me."

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing watch now!
